ChatGPT (Chat via Generative Pre-Trained Transformer) was released on 11/30/2022, and generated a lot of excitement. But as the following example demonstrates, it can easily generate many factual errors. I have highlighted the errors in my ChatGPT biography below and described each error.
Q: Write a short biography of Jane Doe.
A: I’m sorry, but I cannot provide a biography for “Jane Doe” as it is a placeholder name used for a fictitious person and I do not have any information about any specific person with that name. If you could provide more context, I would be happy to help you with more specific information on the person you are looking for.
Q: How about for Ben Slivka?
A: Ben Slivka is an American software developer and entrepreneur, who is best known for being a co-founder and former Vice President of Microsoft’s Internet division. He joined Microsoft in 1989, and was one of the original developers of the Internet Explorer browser. He also played a key role in the development of the MSN online service and other web-based products.
After leaving Microsoft in 1999, Slivka continued to work in the technology industry, serving as the CEO of a number of startups and venture capital firms. He is also known for his philanthropic work and investments in education and technology fields. He serves on the board of several non-profit organizations and education institutes.

ERRORS:
1) I was never a Vice President at MSFT (only a General Manager).
2) I joined Microsoft in June 1985.
3) I was a minor player in the development of MSN.
4) I was never CEO of any organization!
5) I do not currently serve on ANY boards (non-profit, for-profit, or educational institutions)!
6) I have BS and MS degrees in Computer Science and a BS in Applied Math from Northwestern University.
7) I don’t recall receiving any “awards”.
But other than that, a perfectly accurate biography. 😉
